Alooooha!
For three years now my wife and I give ourselves the following at Christmas: a nice weekend getaway, the both of us, in a remote cabin up northen Québec and our snowshoes. We started in 2014 with the Jacques-Cartier National Park (Québec region) and last year we spent the week-end in Charlevoix at the Grands-Jardins National Park. This year we chose the Monts-Valin National Park.
One word: Wow!
The cabin we rented was very cosy and practical.
But the best part was the trails! We started with a nice easy trail, the Mirador, wich gives a beautiful view of the mountains. Easy to start with, it’s a short 2km roud trail. The real deal was the Saturday: Ghost Valley. To get to the trail you have to choices: Either you hike a 12km trail to the start of Ghost Valley or you take a shuttle that will bring you to the start of Ghost Valley. The cost might freeze the urge to go there (60$ per person) but once on top of the mountain, it’s totally worth it. Even more if you are on a short trip and you don’t have the time to hike a 24km round trip. The Ghost Valley trail is a 3km hike up the mountain and you are greated by a spectacular view of the Saguenay area, snow covered trees, if you a lucky enough a bright blue sky and we had no winds… at all!
We also hiked an off track 2km with our guide (Robert, he’s a genius) and it was the best part of it all. If you go on top of Mt Dubuc, you got to do the off track part with the guide. It’s free, if you ask.
